Bruton Museum is a lovely, intimate setting for my first solo show. I am investigating the potential for certain minerals to neutralize harmful electromagnetic frequencies, which are emitted by wifi and mobile phones, amongst other things. These are my first experiments, now being developed into a range of products incorporating protective elements, and which can be applied in a variety of ways, from apparel to interior design.
Continuing with my research; I will be looking at the way technologies, such as mobile phones, are being used and becoming relied on by different sectors of the population. I am particularly concerned by the addictive behavior demonstrated by children and young adults. Also by the effect that living in close proximity to a mobile phone can have on health. One of these effects is the removal of calcium from the cell membrane, which can cause a variety of problems as discussed by Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy, retired professor at Imperial College. Another is the problem of being exposed to EMR at night, if sleeping next to a phone. The pineal gland cannot distinguish between light, and the radiation coming from the phone and, as a consequence, does not secrete melatonin. Melatonin is necessary for the sweeping up of free radicals produced during the daytime.
I intend to use my practice as a vehicle for extending knowledge about these issues.
It would be great if you could come along, my show is on until Saturday 30 November 2013 at Bruton Museum, 26 High Street, Bruton BA10 0AA. The Museum is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 11am to 1pm and Saturday from 11am to 3pm.
