Anna König is a visual artist whose practice makes use of techniques including collage, stitch and patchwork. Working with cotton yarn, she layers spontaneous hand-stitched responses over foundation paper collages, transforming simple ‘working’ stitches such as blanket and herringbone stitch into dynamic visual structures, creating boundaries and ‘holding spaces’ for vibrant colour combinations. Her work is abstract and process driven, but themes concerning the mindful use of materials and the value of slow handwork underpin every piece. She invites viewers to become lost in the colour and detail of her work, to take whatever they need to in that given moment. Anna is a senior lecturer in Textiles at Arts University Bournemouth, and lives in Somerset.
