Keeping it simple

When I originally started this project there were LOTS of different components I was going to put into the dress. All of the things I’ve been interested in recently were all going into one exhibition garment… when really there were enough ideas for a whole collection!

After attending the knitting conference In the Loop in Glasgow, where there was a lot of discussion around authenticity, I reassessed my dress, what it was representing and what form this should take.

The samples shown below are the later, simpler versions showing a knit and purl stitch to replicate the crosses of the tukutuku panels, a travelling cable to represent the contours of the mountain, and the colours of the glacier.

My earlier ideas have been banked for a later, yet to be determined, project (perhaps even a whole collection!)
