Following the addition of the colourful shift dress full of cultural references from Columbia College, Chicago, first year Textile students from Bath Spa University responded with their own thoughtful approach.
Led by Joy Merron with support from Amanda Goode, Course Leader and Jo Chambers, Associate Lecturer, 15 students hand embroidered panels using beautiful Laxtons yarn in creams on a grey wool flannel, interpreting the Bath city lines and textures. Joe Richards, Resident Designer added his distinctive marks, stitching the sixteenth panel. The resulting shift dress was shown for the first time at Sion Hill Gallery as part of the shiftWorks exhibition.
The final journey for this extraordinary exhibition will be to Columbia College’s showcase windows on South Michigan Avenue, Chicago. This has been made possible by the Global Academy for Liberal Arts (GALA) Outreach Fund through Bath Spa University. The exhibition will be on display in Chicago through October this year. Columbia College are very excited to be part of this project.and the shifts will be inspiration for accompanying workshops for Columbia College’s Fashion students.
