‘Sense of Place’ at Brean Down Fort 2016

I’m very excited that after the success of our involvement at Brean Down in 2015, Donna Vale and myself have been appointed as Artists in Residence for another year. The National Trust have been fantastic in supporting us and this year we are developing the project further under the working title of “Art on the Edge” as befits the remote, exposed and beautiful Brean Down and the Fort on the tip of the peninsular.

This year we have already started running a series of art workshops at the Cove Café on Brean Sands with some exciting Somerset artists. Plans are also underway to work with the local communities in the area to get involved in a collaborative project that will be revealed during and after Somerset Arts Week. The Fort will be used as ‘Open Studios’ during September with opportunities for people of all ages to get involved – culminating in an exhibition in October, in and around the dramatic Fort buildings – including a beach calligraphy installation of Dr. John Cooper Clarks’ work and a Big Draw event.

We can’t wait to see how it all comes together and would love to hear from you if you want to get involved – dates and details will be updated nearer the time on www.breandownfort.wordpress.com
