The Stroud International Textile (SIT) Festival is now well and truly underway and three members of seam, Anna Glasbrook, Penny Wheeler and myself (Joy Merron) are showing at different venues in and around Stroud.
I was delighted to have my work selected for the “Shadow and Line” exhibition in the Museum in the Park. The Private View was very well attended and the show looks fabulous. This is the culmination of a lot of hard work by all involved.
Lizzi Walton, SIT Director, has curated the show magnificently – Keith Varney’s beautiful porcelain pieces sit alongside my layered hanging, with Linda Brassington’s elegant piece on the wall creating a visual geometric feast on the way into the gallery.
The proportions of the entrance space and the light from the glass wall gave me the opportunity and space to explore the visual possibilities of ‘Polymorphic Dynamic’; six laser cut panels hand stitched onto a fine netting base. It can be viewed from many perspectives, but my favourite one has to be viewed from outside looking in with the reflection of the trees in the glass.
In the entrance is a taster showcase for the Z Twist project and not to be missed is the exhibition at Newark Park – what an incredible venue, tucked away in rolling Gloucestershire countryside in a Tudor Hunting Lodge, exquisite pieces are displayed discreetly in the rooms, complimenting and redefining the interiors.
