WOW… and a huge thank you!

We are absolutely thrilled that we’ve almost reached our ‘Warped and Wasted’ Crowdfunder target of £5000. As I write, we just need £218 to reach our goal! Thank you so much to everyone who has already donated so generously. It means so much to us that we have your support for our next ambitious textile art project. We love being part of this amazing, worldwide community of textile lovers!

‘We very much want to support you in this worthwhile venture.’ Andrew and Mary Roper

If you haven’t yet had a chance to donate, please consider supporting us. The Crowdfunder finishes this Friday 31st January, so you only have a couple of days. Have a look at the rewards that are still available here:

And, of course, if we receive more than £5000, it will enable us to make even more exciting textile art!

We’re using this Crowdfunder to raise 10% of our proposed budget as the required match funding for our Arts Council application for ‘Warped and Wasted’. The wonderful seam collective artists have already donated £200 each and are also offering their time or a piece of their textile art as a reward in exchange for a donation, ranging from £10-100.

So what’s ‘Warped and Wasted’ all about? Basically, we’re very keen, as a collective, to raise the profile of textiles in fine art, but with a focus on sustainability. Following our very successful Arts Council-funded A Visible THREAD exhibition tour in 2023-24, we’re currently in the process of writing another Arts Council application for Project funding. Our vision is for ‘Warped and Wasted’ to be an aspirational art installation, made collaboratively by seam collective members. It will inhabit the gallery at ACEArts, Somerton, UK from 23 August – 11 October 2025.

‘Really looking forward to seeing what evolves from this project!’ Jade Ogden

We don’t yet know what form this installation will take, but we have a clear plan so that we can make decisions collaboratively and find ways to be more sustainable in our individual practices but also as a collective. It’s exciting, but also rather outside our comfort zones! We will work with a mentor or mentors who specialise in textile art, curation and sustainability. We are also hatching plans for an exciting symposium which will happen alongside the exhibition and will enable us to share our research and continue the conversation about textiles, art and sustainability.

‘Good luck it sounds fantastic and I love what your doing.’ Amanda Bee

And here’s the fabulous Angie Parker talking about the rewards too. (Thanks, Angie!)

If you enjoyed the A Visible THREAD exhibition tour, if you follow us on Instagram or are part of the #SeptTextileLove community or if you just love textiles – why not also become part of our ‘Warped and Wasted’ project by donating here? Every contribution, however large or small, will enable us to research sustainable textile materials, methods and processes and develop ways of working which we will then disseminate through the symposium.

‘Sustainability and Creativity are so important. Good luck with this great project 😊’ Felicity Lees-Price

Many thanks in anticipation and we look forward to seeing you in Somerton in August!

‘Go for it! Xx.’ Sarah Whittick
