#SeptTextileLove 2024

Can it really be time for #SeptTextileLove already? After last year’s huge success, we’ve been putting our heads together at seam collective to ensure that the 2024 challenge is as fun and challenging as it was when we first launched the initiative in 2017.

If you’re new to this space, the challenge is for each participant to respond to daily prompts that we send out for every day in September. (You can get all 30 a week in advance if you sign up to our mailing list here).

There are no right or wrong ways to interpret a prompt, but obviously, a love of textiles places fibres and skills at the heart of the posts. These are then shared on Instagram, where the focus shifts to building a community of textile enthusiasts and making connections. Members of seam take it in turns to select three favourite posts for each prompt, which we share on the seam Instagram feed with almost 13,000 followers. As a bonus, it’s a fun way to create content for your Instagram feed and take a deeper look at aspects of your textile practice or hobby. It’s funny what you can unearth in response to a prompt!

An old photograph sparked a conversation between other textile enthusiasts who’d demonstrated at the same museum, years apart. It’s a small world!

I will confess that in seven years, I have not once completed the entire challenge, with last year’s effort being the closest I have come; making it all the way to Day 29. Laughably, the one prompt that I missed on the last day was ‘Favourite post from another participant’. Possibly the easiest to share! Was I just too spoilt for choice? (I think I had a different work deadline and just didn’t get around to posting).

Did you manage 30 posts last year, or did you skip a few? And will you join us this year to go for a full house? Whether you’re a dedicated all-or-nothing type or prefer to dip in and out, we’re looking forward to sharing the 2024 prompts with you and can’t wait to see what you share with us.

Sharing the posts from other makers is a great way to end the challenge, though you’re likely to be spoilt for choice. This participant made it all the way to Day 30 without missing any. Congratulations Liz Cooper.

Many agree that this final prompt, ‘Favourite post from another participant’ consolidates the most memorable parts of the challenge, as the community spirit shines through in each post.

Check out all of last year’s posts on Instagram using the hashtags #SeptTextileLove and #SeptTextileLove2023, and read more in our blog posts and on our website. The prompts for 2024 will be released on 31 August, or a week earlier if you sign up to our newsletter – see you on Instagram on 1 September!
